“My journey into manufacturing started when I became a career counselor and worked with job seekers to find a career. With a background in education and teaching, I did not know much about the manufacturing industry. Why would I? I began visiting businesses to do tours of manufacturing to learn about available jobs. I remember being captivated by the variety of manufacturing occupations, unique products being made and the skills required.
When the consortium was formed to create pathways into manufacturing, I found it a good fit for the work that I was doing with justice impacted job seekers that have the required skills or the ability and interest to acquire those skills if given a fair chance. Manufacturing has provided these job seekers pathways to work in the front office such as HR and administrative assistance to production in welding, CNC machining, warehouse and assembly. The Manufacturing Pathways Consortium collaboration has provided me great satisfaction in being able to connect manufacturers with talent that benefits their business."
